 Morocco national football team: Atlas Lions



The Moroccan national football team, known as the "Atlas Lions", is one of the strongest teams in the African continent and the Arab world. It has a rich history of achievements and distinguished participations in continental and international tournaments.


History of the team


The Moroccan national team was founded in 1955 after the country's independence, and joined the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) in 1960. The team made its first appearance in the African Cup of Nations in 1972, and quickly became a strong competitor on the African scene.


Achievements of the team


1. African Cup of Nations:

The Moroccan national team won the African Cup of Nations once in 1976 in Ethiopia, which is the most prominent achievement on the continent. It also reached the final in 2004 but lost to Tunisia.


2. World Cup:

Morocco was the first African and Arab team to qualify for the round of 16 in the World Cup, in the 1986 edition in Mexico. He also participated in several other versions, most notably the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he achieved a historic achievement by reaching the semi-finals for the first time in the history of Arab and African teams, outperforming major teams such as Spain and Portugal.


3. Other Championships:


The Moroccan national team won the Arab Cup in 2012.
